The prevalence of dermatological conditions has surged globally over the years, and they currently rank fourth among the leading causes of non-fatal disease burden. This trend is prominent in Egypt as well, with research indicating a rise in the prevalence of dermatological conditions such as Atopic Dermatitis (AD), Alopecia Areata (AA), and Vitiligo. In spite of the considerable economic and humanistic burden of the disease on patients and caregivers, awareness of these diseases is suboptimal among patients, general health care practitioners (HCPs), and payers due to low perceived prevalence, disease burden, and limited understanding of the impact on QoL. With new advances in dermatology, there is a compelling need to understand and reflect on dermatology in the country.
Our whitepaper outlines key initiatives aimed at increasing awareness among stakeholders, identifying unmet needs in treatment pathways, and addressing access barriers to innovative treatments for skin diseases in Egypt.
